Quilts

In October 2013, I started to make quilts.  I taught myself by watching YouTube videos and reading quilters’ blogposts.  It’s been a great journey, and I thought it would be fun to look at all the quilts I’ve made over the last four years, starting from my purple rag quilt (still on our bed) up to the most recent scrap quilt for my friend Olga. There are two missing from the round up, so I guess that means I have made 16 in four years, plus some other things like potholders, little purses, an over-the-shoulder bag, and a laptop sleeve.  I realize that I have returned to two interests I had when I was a teenager–making comics and making quilts. I only put them off for 30 years or so!  The most gratifying thing about this is to make quilts FOR people. I love thinking about the person I am sewing for, thinking of what colours they would like, which design will suit who they are, what will make them happy when they pull the quilt around them on a cold night. Quilting brings many hours of joy, and has lead to creations like the 12 Moons quilt for my friend Andréa and the City Skyline quilt for Evan, my eldest.
